The Hifrensa settlement, Catalonia's last industrial colony

The Hifrensa settlement is a new residential complex designed in 1969 by the rationalist architect Antoni Bonet Castellana. It consists of a group of dwellings and other facilities to house the workers of the Vandellòs I nuclear power station, and is managed by the company Hifrensa. The architectural project was adapted to the orography of the terrain, so the topography was manipulated and the appearance of the surrounding landscape was recreated. The architect also differentiated the pedestrian areas by means of concrete bridges and walkways. It is one of the most important examples of Bonet Castellana's work in the country, and was one of the last industrial colonies in Catalonia.
